I think most people wonder about their finances…my mom always worried yet she was fine …then there are some who don’t worry whatsoever …they want to travel and enjoy the freedom….I have a few people I know that feel the government will take care of them ….it may be the business side of you …actually Terry still works …he tried retiring but wasn’t into it ,felt happier and more fulfilled working a few hours 3 days a week…so it’s a win win there and it keeps him happy …I and Terry have always been careful with our money not really showy , simple needs in a way …stuff I wanted as a younger person and couldn’t afford now that I can afford it , don’t care anymore !! Lol!

I think with more time as you are a newly retiree things will settle into a comfort zone for you ..

I think that everyone thinks about their retirement years ..its just a normal thought process for most of us …I think you’re in good company with your thinking!😊

As well as the diminishing bank account, there is another diminishing thing: the to-do list. I finished everything on my to-do list for the first time in my life. This is something I thought would be a lifelong impossible dream. Guess I will have to start a "Could-do" list or find another impossible dream.

You hit the nail on the head! Every time I get a rrif deposit into my account I kind of feel a pang of guilt and then I have to remind myself this is why I put this money away!

Funny how the comment below mentions getting a side gig - which is exactly what I did! I enjoy it a lot cause it gives some structure to my life and a little extra pocket change zThe cool thing is I really look forward to my little part time job / I guess cause I know I don’t really “need” it ! Love your blog C!

I think most retirees who were regular savers do find it hard to tap into the well. Which is why many end up working a side gig that earns them pocket money while doing something they enjoy. I'd never suggest taking jobs away from younger folks who need them more (school, raising families, etc.) But, even our writing can become a source of side income if we commit to it and put in the time.

Retirement is a big readjustment. Everything felt weird to me: not having to be somewhere at a certain time, saying goodby to coworkers, etc. But, don't worry...you'll find your sweet spot, and it is sweet to be your own boss.

Your system with regard to country debt so I’ve never had to worry about that thankfully. As we grew older we started taking a more conservative approach to our investments. If the market goes down we’re hurt by it but not devastated. Hopefully. Lol.

I'm 4 months away from retiring and while I'm so excited about it I'm almost giddy, I'm also terrified that my "retirement savings" won't be enough. What will happen if the politicians crater the stock market by defaulting on the US debt? Should I "not" retire right now and work a while longer instead? If I do retire, will I have to get another job at some point? I'm so conflicted at some many upcoming life changes.
