What a spectacular thing I saw when peering through my spare bedroom window at the night sky a short while ago.
It was a lunar eclipse. I don’t think I’ve seen one for years.
According to space.com …
“Lunar eclipses occur when Earth is positioned between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow across the surface of the moon.”
And an explanation wouldn’t be complete without something from The Urban Dictionary …
“A lunar eclipse looks just like a solar eclipse, but is instead when evil people on the moon decide to take over the universe with snipers and other shit like that.”
I suspect that the truer explanation is that from space.com. But the Urban Dictionary one is certainly entertaining.
Then there are the stars. Those beautiful celestial bodies made mostly of hydrogen and helium that produce light.
As a kid I often wished upon the the first star of the night. I’d close my eyes, say a little verse ending it with my wish. Then I’d spin around to seal the deal.
Star light, star bright
First star I see tonight
I wish I may, I wish I might
Have the wish I wish tonight.
I wish …
As a child I think it was always a silly wish. As a teen I’m sure it was about whatever boy I was crushing on. As a young adult I know it was about happiness and ever lasting love. And today, I confess sometimes when I see the first star I still wish upon it. My wish, well in order for it to come true, I mustn’t divulge
Until the next time.
I also used to faithfully wish on the first star that appeared in the evening sky. I haven't done it in a long while. Maybe it's time to start again!
