I recently spent 3 glorious weeks on a beach in Florida. My husband and I rented a condo in the St Pete’s beach area and our balcony faced the beach and the amazing sunsets.
Normally I’m not really a huge sunset person (my husband is) but I have to say that they were spectacular. When watching one particular sunset I noticed so many people still on the beach, either sitting in their chairs or standing watching the sun drop. So what is the deal with sunsets anyway? Well I’ll tell you a small bit about them.
From what I understand there are 3 types of sunsets all happening on one occasion … civil dusk, nautical dusk and astronomical dusk. Sounds pretty complicated, but it isn’t. The 3 dusks are …
“occurring at the exact moment when the centre of the sun’s disk is at 6”, 12”, and 18” below the horizon”
So civil dusk is 6”, nautical dusk is 12” and astronomical dusk is 18”. Easy peasy.
Now that you know this check out a sunset. If you’re like me and not really a sunset person, with this little tidbit, sunsets may become more engaging for you. It worked for me.
Until the next time.
