Sorry …
sometimes doesn’t cut it
This particular piece may be a little much for some as it definitely gets into the political realm. If you don’t want to subject yourself to my political rant, then please don’t read it. My intention is not to offend anyone but it may happen especially to those south of me. Sometimes the gloves gotta come off.
If you want to steer clear of politics then wait for the next publishing when I’ll return to the “regularly scheduled program.”
Awhile back we attended a wedding in a country that shall not be named. I know it sounds like something out of a Harry Potter book but that’s how I feel about my recent excursion into a country who’s “Commander in Chief” is intent on destroying my country and either annexing it to his or turning it into a serfdom.
I’ve been holding back my opinions because I had that family affair to attend and I didn’t want to upset or taint the function with my views on the situation. In essence I’ve been censoring myself because of one person and that has pissed me off more than anyone could know. But now that I’m home and have no intention of returning to the country that “shall not be named” for one heck of a long time, if ever, I now feel free to express myself.
Here’s my take on the excursion south and my personal opinion …
Clearing immigration to the country at our local airport was smooth. Much smoother than I anticipated. There was none of the searching of phones or computers to see what the contents were so I suppose I wasted some time snoozing any contentious pages and people on social media platforms that were giving opinions about the “Commander” and his minions.
Guests at the wedding were quite nice and seemed to be genuinely embarrassed about the state of affairs. Some were surprised that a good number of us ventured south given the goings on. I actually received a few apologies which I brushed off because it was not the appropriate time and place.
But, what I really wanted to say then and say now to the public of the country “that shall not be named” is …
“Don’t apologize and feel bad or embarrassed, get off your butt and do something about it. Your country is sliding into fascism, if it already isn’t there and you’re apologizing. Seriously? Use whatever constitutional rights you still have before your self-appointed King takes them all away. Write letters, attend peaceful rallies, help inform more people about who really pays the tariffs he’s put in place on the world. Help educate people about all those cuts to services, all the jobs lost and tell them where the money saved is really going. Help flip the house in 2026 and stop the train wreck that’s picking up speed. Do you think he’ll stop at the Capital and a few major cities with the National Guard? Don’t sit back and go about your life as if nothing is happening because you’re not targeted … yet”.
And for some, I would continue with …
“Unless … you may not have voted him in but you enjoy the bigger tax breaks and you have the money to pay for increased health care costs. I think you don’t see that your democracy is fading away because it may not be affecting you. Your streets don’t have the National Guard or your armed forces “cleaning” things up, you don’t know anyone that’s been grabbed at work and maybe, just maybe, some of the news is fake. It takes a lot of effort to do something and others are stepping up so it’ll be okay. Right? Someone else will fix things. Right? How much damage can he really do?” I didn’t say any of that because I’m polite and again, it wasn’t the right time and place. I think now is.
In the meantime my country will do what it can to protect itself from your President. I will continue buying Canadian and every other country but yours. I will travel in Canada and in every other country but yours. I will do everything I can to avoid your country and sadly that may be longer than just his term. After all, didn’t over 50% of the voters elect him? And another, how many, didn’t even bother to vote. They may have stopped this train before it left the station.
So keep being embarrassed and apologizing instead of doing something and let’s see how things are in, say, a year or so. I really, really hope everything works out for your country but I’m thinking that ship is starting to sail.
Oh and one last thing … FYI the quickest way to piss off a Canadian is to continue with the 51st state crap. It’s not a joke and it’s not funny. We’re tired of it and we will never willingly join the country “that shall not be named.” We are a sovereign country. End of topic. Period. Full stop.
Until the next time.

Agree completely!! Nuff said
