I believe this is a true statement. Sometimes it really is who you know. Sometimes fairness doesn’t come into play. Sometimes you use a persons name and doors open. Sometimes you get a break in spite of the odds.
It’s certainly not right. But it happens all the time. I’ve been on the receiving end of knowing someone. And I have taken advantage of it. It’s an odd feeling. For me, that feeling is guilt. Guilt because someone said “check out her stuff, it’s unique.” I got in because a friend knew someone and they saw me only because we have a mutual friend.
Because it isn’t right I try to atone for it as best I can. I pay it forward when I can. I help others in the charitable endeavours I work on. I recommend others but only if I believe their services are of the highest standard. And I never forget the person who helped me. And I help them back if the opportunity arises. How about you? Ever get special treatment because of who you know?
Until the next time.
