Since I found my first piece of sea glass washed up on the shore of my local beach I’ve been fascinated by it. I love everything about it. The colours, the smoothness of the glass, the unique shape, and the mystery of its origins. Sea glass has had me enthralled for years.
I’ve collected glass from beaches in Ontario, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, P.E.I., Florida, Hawaii and Maine. If there’s a beach then it’s almost a sure bet there’s sea glass. Standard colours are white, green and brown. On occasion you may find blue and red, but those are few and far between. Red is the rarest and a huge find. In all my years searching I’ve only been lucky enough to find two pieces of red.
For a long time I’ve wanted to use the pieces I’ve collected creatively but the mix of colours didn’t really inspire me to create. A trip to Florida looking for something beachy to put on my walls changed that. I went to a tacky souvenir shop looking for sand dollars and items like that but spotted something better. There I found man-made sea glass in many beautiful colours. An idea struck me … I could make my own art for the walls. So I did.
Those pics are a small sample of the art I’ve created using a mixture of my glass collection and man-made pieces. It’s been fun creating these and I’m not ready to stop yet.
With nowhere to hang the many creations I’ve already made it’s looking more and more like I’ll be selling some off. There are worse things in life.
Thanks for reading.
Until the next time.
Beautiful! Perhaps a Etsy shop is in your future?
