Dawning has occurred
A memory is buried
Time to roll forward
I wrote that Haiku years ago because of a situation that had occurred in my personal life. I had just come to the conclusion that I was wasting time thinking about and replaying the situation in my mind, over and over and over again. It was time to move forward. And I was right. Time and space turned the incident into nothing more than a sad memory. But a memory nonetheless.
And speaking of memories, there’s an ad I often see on tv asking whether one would regret the “things” you didn’t buy or the “places” you didn’t go. I don’t know about you but personally I’d much rather have memories of the places I’ve gone. You may think differently?
I have some very happy memories of our travels to some incredible islands in the Caribbean. We’ve visited Turks & Caicos, Anguilla, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Barbados, Carriacou, Bequia and Aruba and we’re not done yet.
Of those Sint Eustatius or Statia as it’s fondly named still strikes a chord with me. It’s a lovely island situated a short plane ride from St. Maarten. We spent a week there a number of years ago and had an incredible time. I have a great memory of walking up what is called “The Bay Path” (also named The Slave Path) to the bakery to buy the most delicious bacon and cheese filled bun. These buns were so good that once we discovered them we made it a daily ritual … for breakfast. Just writing about them has my mouth watering. And unfortunately we’ve never found anything anywhere that comes close to replicating them.
Check out Statia online. It has an interesting history involving war, slavery and blue beads. Once you’ve read about it you may just want to make it a stop in your travels some day.
Until the next time.
