On this day a number of things are celebrated and observed.
In 1781 astronomer William Herschel first observed Uranus, Apollo 9 returned to Earth and in 1930 the planet Pluto was discovered. March 13 is also known as Coconut Torte Day and National Open an Umbrella Indoors Day.
Open an Umbrella Indoors Day intrigued me as I knew of the old superstition surrounding opening an umbrella indoors. Some believe that opening an umbrella while inside will bring bad luck and disturb your home’s good spirits.
The concept behind Open an Umbrella Indoors Day is quite simple. Open an umbrella and monitor your luck. This day was created by Thomas Edward Knibb of Frederick, Maryland and is considered a national science experiment. Sort of. I say sort of because I couldn’t locate an agency where a person could report their observations of any change in luck. But I did find a blog with instructions on how to reverse the bad luck. But that’s for another time.
In the meantime, I’m going to open an umbrella indoors today and monitor things. How about you?
Thanks for reading.
Until the next time.
LOL Broken mirrors bad luck may last 7years, but I don't know what the statute of limitations is on the bad luck of opening umbrellas indoors.
Well, nothing unlucky seems to have happened up to now--1:15 a.m. Although I don't know if something unbeknownst to 'we mere mortals' got started today, perhaps revealing the resulting BAD
