Cambridge Dictionary states …
Generosity is “a willingness to give help or support, especially more than is usual or expected.”
The Urban dictionary defines generosity as …
“Showing graciousness, kindness, and warmth to others. Behaviour that is altruistic.”
During the Christmas season I experienced many true examples of generosity at it’s best, in my opinion.
This is a story of sisters in spirit, not necessarily in blood. It’s a story of the power of women. It’s a simple story.
In 2021 I saw a posting on social media about a couple women in my town who were running a campaign to help disadvantaged women. It was called “Fill A Purse”. The basic concept was to donate a new or gently used purse filled with necessary items such as a hat, mittens, socks, scarf, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, soap, feminine hygiene products and any other items one feels a woman could use.
Not personally knowing these women running the campaign, but thinking the idea was wonderful and an easy way to help a “sister” I researched “Fill A Purse”. What I found was a legitimate charity that was trying to help women in need. So I decided to help out.
I contacted some friends and between us we came up with 16 filled purses to help the cause. It felt good, it felt right and I like to think it put a smile on a woman’s face that may not have the opportunity to smile too often. Based on those feelings I committed to a larger role in the 2022 campaign.
And it was the 2022 campaign that I experienced overwhelming generosity. Not only did my family and friends go above and beyond with their contributions … we gathered 68 filled purses, many empty purses, lots of extra products to fill purses and gift cards to buy more products … but the number of us physically organizing, sorting and delivering the purses rose from 4 to 11. Together our group helped put a smile on the faces of 358 women.
And that is what I’d call different types of generosity.
Until the next time.
Wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing!
What a terrific idea! It's incredibly satisfying to help others, whether it's adults, children, or animals. Too bad more people in this world don't do it. A lot of problems could be lessened or solved.
