Friday the 13th ..
good luck, bad luck or paranoia?
My first encounter with Friday the 13th happened when I was a child of 5. I knew nothing about the superstition surrounding this particular day. All I knew was that my Grandpa died.
As I grew older I heard stories about Friday the 13th and how it was such an unlucky day. Did I believe the stories? Hard to say but I will say I’ve always tread somewhat lightly on these days. Nothing strange or unfortunate ever happened until this year. It involves a necklace.
When I was about 20 my mom bought me a gold pendant of my astrological sign Gemini along with a gold chain. I wore that necklace combo almost every day for years and years … probably 25 years. Then I stopped wearing it and other necklaces for reasons that escape me. I guess I just lost interest in jewellery in general.
But this year, again, for whatever reason, I decided to go through my jewellery and start wearing necklaces again. In my sorting I found the pendant still with its chain and decided why not start wearing it again. So I did on Friday the 13th. That evening we went to the local pub.
At some point in the pub I touched where the pendant would be and it wasn’t there. I thought it had wound its way around the back of my neck but no luck. I looked in my lap and on the floor, no luck. I stood up to shake things out just in case but no luck. Gone. I was upset but also resigned thinking it was meant to be. But was it?
What seemed like a miracle a few days later, my husband was walking by our fridge and something caught his eye and tucked very close to the fridge was my pendant. It seems, in this case, Friday the 13th bad luck wasn’t long lasting. So lucky for me
Until the next time.
