On my very wet bike ride a short while back I could not get those words out of my head. It’s totally my husband’s fault. Why, you ask? It’s a story.
For many years we were solely in-line skaters then my husband got the brilliant idea to go on a cycling trip. Sometimes he gets these ideas and for the life of me I don’t know why I always agree. Must have something to do with love. Anyway, he got this idea which ultimately resulted in a cycling trip to Ireland.
However we needed to be able to actually cycle the distances and hills. We only had old beater bikes to ride to get ready for the trip. I didn’t like my bike much as it was heavy and hard to ride. I had to really grip the handlebars and when riding up hills I tended to lean forward. He saw that and started humming and whistling the song from The Wizard of Oz where the mean neighbour aka the future Wicked Witch of the West who took Toto was riding her bike … doo doo doo doo doo doo doo. Look up the song. It’s annoying.
So when it’s raining as I cycle for some unknown reason my mind jumps to the whole Wizard of Oz movie and very quickly a lot of the songs fly through my mind. I don’t know why but they do. And eventually the last song that gets stuck in my mind is the song after The Wicked Witch was melted by water. And it repeats in my mind.
Ding dong, the witch is dead, ding dong the witch is dead, ding dong the witch is dead and on and on and on.
The only saving grace is that I don’t melt when I get wet. At least not yet.
Until the next time.
