Confidence vs arrogance. Can one be mistaken for the other?
A google search came up with something from indeed.com that I think captures the essence of both …
“While confidence and arrogance may seem to be opposite forms of expression, there is often a fine line between them. Confidence is a trait that involves positively expressing your abilities, while arrogance is often associated with believing you’re more intelligent and capable than those around you.”
Agreed … it is a fine line in my opinion. I’ve run into situations where an individual in a circumstance speaks and projects themselves in such a manner that others around them feel they’re not enough. Not smart enough, not savvy enough, not cool enough … just not enough. I ask myself if this is arrogance or confidence. Arrogance wins out every single time.
A perfect example … I was involved in a fun annual competition back in the day. Previous years winner didn’t compete so they announced that the results wouldn’t “hold water”. In other words, the results were not valid because they did not compete. My opinion of this action … arrogance. And honestly it annoyed me that this person would undermine the whole competition that year by their absurd suggestion.
Why would someone do that? I repeat, it was a fun competition. Some days I don’t understand my fellow humans. How difficult would it have been to keep that opinion to one’s self? It boggles my mind.
Until the next time.
Opinions...everyone has one and unfortunately some people are compelled to always share theirs. 🙄
