Oxford languages defines this proverb as …
beauty cannot be judged objectively, for what one person finds beautiful or admirable may not appeal to another
The actress Salma Hayek once said “People often say that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.”
There you have it. Something or someone I find beautiful may not appeal to you and vice versa. The smallest or most obscure things may be beautiful to you and you can bask in the knowledge that it’s yours and possibly only yours.
And, in my opinion, that’s the “beauty” of the proverb. It’s all individually driven and that makes it even more precious.
Until the next time.
