Two nice things happened to me on a recent bike ride. They were totally unexpected and really made my day.
The first incident happened while I was riding up a very quiet street. I got that itch in my nose that signalled a sneeze was coming. Sure enough I sneezed and just managed to cover my nose & mouth while still riding and steering one-handed. From across the street came a voice saying “Bless you”. Made me smile.
The second occurred on a busier street. There were a few cars coming towards me and passing me. I was coming close to where I needed to turn right so I hand signalled my turn and followed through with my turn.
Once turned, a car slowed, pulled up beside me and rolled down their passenger window. I was thinking “uh oh what’s up with this?” The woman driving the vehicle leaned over and said to me “I just want to thank you so much for signalling your turn and showing respect to others on the road”. I was stunned for a minute because it was just a common action I do whenever turning, slowing or stopping on my bike. I signal my intentions. It’s safer all around.
Until the next time.
Yes …one is always pleasantly taken back or surprised when kindness is given by a stranger ….very few people acknowledge kind polite gestures anymore …most times they don’t even see you …takes us back to simpler times ,people weren’t afraid of talking to strangers or interacting …I liked that you shared your experiences…endearing …renewal of kindness in human contact 👍🏻👍🏻
